The International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) is an American multinational technology and consulting corporation which manufactures and markets computer hardware and software. The company has more recently started dabbing into the field of nanotechnology. IBM can be found being mentioned by numerous arguments concerning the park. By the time the park was constructed, genetic engineering began turning into an agenda to gain higher profits. Critics began to question the whole idea, and started to even acknowledge researchers at the prestigious Bell or IBM labs as people that failed to obtain a university appointment. Despite this, IBM’s reputation has been barely damaged and continues to successfully operate.
IBM was originally founded by Charles Ranlett Flint on June 16, 1911 in Endicott, New York. Prior to 1924, the company was formerly titled as the Computing Tabulating Recording Company (CTR). In 1914, Thomas J. Watson began to help guide the company towards customer service. He also created the famous slogan “THINK” for the company. Only 11 months into the job, Watson became the new president of the company. The CTR began to focus on bigger scaled products, and was renamed IBM on February 4, 1924. The company later expanded to the highest of ranks, beginning to play a larger role in history. During World War II, they produced some of the weapons for the American side of the war, came up with the concept of artificial intelligence, helped NASA, and continue to advance their technology to this day.
