A natural history museum is–as its name suggests–a museum with exhibits concerning natural history, including topics such as animals, plants, ecosystems, geology, paleontology, and climatology. Some museums feature natural history collections in addition to other collections such as ones related to history, art, and science, while in some museums it is the reverse. Nature centers often include natural history exhibits, too. Notably, it is in natural history museums where the fossilized bones of dinosaurs are mounted and displayed.
Prior to the events of the Isla Nublar Incident, the Murphy family went to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. One of the things they saw was the skeleton of a Camptosaurus and specimen number AMNH 5027 of a Tyrannosaurus rex, which Tim Murphy pointed out had too many back vertebrae.
