A ghillie suit is a type of camouflage clothing which helps the wearer blend in with natural surroundings, often brush, grass, and foliage. Other specialized ghillie suits can resemble snow or sandy ground. Most are made of a cloth net or similar garment which serves as the base for loose strips of hessian designed to resemble terrain objects or ground detritus. Such suits are commonly used by military personnel, hunters, nature photographers, and anyone else whose aim is stealth in the wild.
Sonar fencing, also called a sound barrier, is an animal management device developed by International Genetic Technologies. It was originally invented in the early 2000s as a means to discourage dinosaurs from entering an area without having to erect a physical barrier. This allowed temporary, easily-removable barriers to exist in an animal pen, permitting human staff to come and go without obstruction while also keeping the animals in or out. The technology works by emitting a noise beyond the range of human hearing, but within the hearing range of the target animal. Many dinosaurs are sensitive to infrasound, so this enables the sound barriers to emit an acoustic signal that has an effect on numerous animal species but a negligible effect on humans. According to the Jurassic Park…
During his eight-week marooning on Isla Sorna, Eric Kirby carried with him a backpack that he used to store useful items and resources.
The InGen Embryonics, Administration, and Laboratories Compound on Isla Sorna could be accessed using a set of keys.
An electronic key card is a form of ID used to access areas restricted by electronic scanner locks.
Lemonade is a beverage made from lemon juice and sugar.
The ocean barge was a marine vessel that transported the gatherer team composed of Dr. Ian Malcolm, Nick Van Owen, Eddie Carr and, secretly, Kelly Malcolm to the island, Site B. The barge carried all of their equipment to Site B. The group chose the barge in order to not spook dinosaurs due to the noise of an air lift and endanger Dr. Sarah Harding in the process. The captain refused to anchor on shore and said he would not remain at anchor a few miles offshore for long, due to stories about Site B and the disappearance of fishermen.
The trailers were a pair of vehicles connected by an accordion. The vehicle was built by Eddie Carr and his company. The back trailer served as a mobile laboratory where research and experimentation was conducted. Dr. Ian Malcolm used it to try to call for the boat to transport his family off the island. Concurrently, Nick Van Owen and Sarah Harding used the lab as a medical facility to set a baby Tyrannosaur‘s broken leg. The trailers were attacked by the baby’s parents to retrieve their child and defend their new territory. The trailers were pushed over the cliff and destroyed, taking the radio and satellite phone and forcing the gatherer team to join forces with the hunters.
All-activity vehicles, also known as AAVs, were produced by Eddie Carr for use on Isla Sorna by Ian Malcolm, Sarah Harding, Nick Van Owen and Carr. At least a pair of AAVs were brought on the expedition to Sorna. Eddie’s all-activity vehicle was equipped with a winch. The AAVs were designed to cover any terrain they could encounter on Isla Sorna. Carr used one of the vehicles for transportation while he erected his High Hide; the other was used by Nick and Sarah to transport an injured baby Tyrannosaurus rex to their research trailers after sabotaging the hunter camp. Eddie used his AAV to delay the destruction of the research trailers so that Sarah, Ian and Nick could escape via rope. The two Tyrannosaur parents of the baby…
The High Hide was an observation platform designed by Eddie Carr for use on the expedition to Isla Sorna. The platform was fifteen feet tall and was constructed with metal stilts for support. The High Hide was set up among poisonous plants in order to conceal their presence and discourage animals from attacking the platform. Ian Malcolm brought his daughter, Kelly Malcolm, to the High Hide after the latter complained about the noise of the baby Tyannosaur in the research trailers. Kelly remained there for the duration of the T. rex attack on those trailers. The High Hide, along with the rest of the team’s remaining equipment, was abandoned by the group following the destruction of the trailers and the death of Eddie Carr.
Amber is a naturally-occurring substance formed from the fossilization of wood resin (often incorrectly described as fossilized tree sap). When globs of resin land on the ground or in water, they can become buried in sediment. If buried thoroughly enough, the pressure and heat of the overlying layers can cause molecular polarization, which turns the resin into copal. From here, the high pressure and resultant temperature gradually drive off terpenes; once this process is complete, the copal has become amber. Not all resin samples will become amber. Some are too sensitive to temperature, and all resin will eventually deteriorate if exposed to extreme enough heat. Since it is a biological product, it can be rotted by bacteria or fungi, and moisture can destroy it as well. Sunlight may…
