Cryptosporidium (S/F-JWE)

Cryptosporidium is a genus of parasitic alveolate in the family Cryptosporidiidae. It is found in the gastrointestinal tracts of animals, where it can cause the disease cryptosporidiosis. The main symptom is watery diarrhea, though in immunocompromised hosts, it can also cause a persistent cough. As of 2024, scientists had identified twenty-five species.
