InGen manufactured specially-designed cages to contain and transport dinosaurs, which were put to use by the Hunters in1997 when they attempted to capture live dinosaurs on Isla Sorna and transport them to Jurassic Park: San Diego. Some of these cages were specifically shaped to contain specific species, such as Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus. Except for the Tyrannosaurus cage that was used to transport the bull tyrannosaur to the mainland, all of the cages could be opened by a swinging door with simple locks on many of them. Padlocks were used for some of the dinosaurs, such as on the Triceratops cage.
Smaller cages were also created to contain smaller species, such as Pachycephalosaurus and Compsognathus, or infants of larger species such as Triceratops and Stegosaurus. A simple latch held these cages locked and could easily be opened by human hands.
In an effort to thwart the plans of the Hunters, Nick Van Owen opened all of the cages, allowing the dinosaurs to escape. The fleeing dinosaurs then destroyed the camp, along with all of the Hunters’ communication equipment, and forced the two groups to work together in order to escape the island.
