The domestic pig (Sus domesticus), also called the hog or swine, is a domesticated species of hoofed mammal in the pig family Suidae. It is commonly farmed for its meat around the world. Domestic pigs are considered to have evolved via domestication from the Eurasian wild boar (Sus scrofa), of which some scientists consider them a subspecies.
