Unpopular Jurassic Opinions

Post by Nedryland »

Which opinion relating to the Jurassic franchise do you have that, would seem, to go against the opinion of the majority. (Please keep it civil, the idea of the thread is to share opinions and, at most, discuss the rationale of those opinions and counter arguments, if any.)

I’ll start:

The Jurassic Park 3 Brachiosaurus colouration is best in the franchise, for the Brachiosaur.

The franchise didn’t need hybrids.

Michael Giacchino didn’t do a good job with the Jurassic World trilogy score.

I agree that hybrids weren't needed. I'm also personally of the volition that the whole "filling in the gaps in the genome with frog DNA" requires a little too much suspension of disbelief. Simply going with "we got blood from the insect trapped in amber" was enough for me. I'd buy that it was perfectly preserved.

-I think the Indoraptor is a better analogy than the Indominus was. It was creepier, more unnerving, and also more aesthetically pleasing.

-I think the JW movies move us too far from the original mood and tone of the franchise that the first three movies set up. The Avengers Assemble dino fights always came off to me as feeling like a child playing with their toys. The only time it seemed semi-justified was in Dominion with the fact that they packed all these animals into a small, enclosed area. Like, the Therizino is already super aggro, and the T. rex and Giga have already shown not to get along. What do people expect to happen when you stick all three in the same room. As they say, put Ghandi, Jesus, and the pope in a room together long enough and they'll come out hating each other.

-There's too much "for the irony" in Trevorrow's writing. Like, JW didn't need to be a movie that made commentary on commercialism WHILE also being packed with commercialism for the irony of it.

-I like Isla Sorna better than Isla Nublar. Likewise, I like the male T. rex better than the female in terms of coloration and design.

-I likewise agree that I didn't care for Giacchino's score in the JW movies, which is weird considering I LOVE his scores in everything else he's done. The Incredibles, Rogue One, Ratatouille, and Up were all bangers, and his score to The Batman is probably his best to date. But I just can't get into his JW scores. They sound like noise for the sake of noise.
