Oceti Šakówiŋ (S/F)

The Oceti Šakówiŋ are a group of Native American and First Nations peoples who live mainly in central and western North America. Included are the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota peoples. English-speakers often erroneously call them the “Sioux Nation,” a name which was assigned to them by the French during the 1600s based on a transcription of an exonym of Ojibwe origin.
