To prevent an unmanageable dinosaur population from arising, InGen deliberately ensured that all of Jurassic Park’s dinosaurs were unable to reproduce. Because all vertebrate embryos are initially female-males only produced by an added effect such as a hormone added at the correct developmental stage-Dr. Henry Wu and Jurassic Park’s team of geneticists were able to simply deny the dinosaur embryos the ability to change gender by controlling the animals’ chromosomes. This meant that only female dinosaurs were created for display on Isla Nublar. However, it eventually transpired that the dinosaurs were able to breed, due to the amphibian DNA present in their genome allowing them to change sex.
