Smilodon is a genus of saber-toothed felid in the subfamily Machairodontinae. It originally lived in the Americas between 2.5 million years and 10,000 years ago. While it is sometimes called the “saber-toothed tiger,” it is actually more closely related to the clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa).
