The tiger (Panthera tigris) is a species of big cat in the subfamily Pantherinae, and is the largest extant felid. It is native to southern Asia and northern Indonesia, but its habitat has been greatly restricted in the modern age and it is now considered an endangered species. There are five tiger subspecies, three of which are extinct.
