Julia Heliconian (S/F)

The Julia heliconian (Dryas iulia), also called the flame or flambeau, is a species of brush-footed butterfly in the subfamily Heliconiinae. It is a long-lived species native to Latin America, where it is found from Brazil to the Gulf Coast of North America; during the summer they may be found as far north as Nebraska. Caterpillars of this species feed on passionflower vines, whereas adults drink the nectar of flowers and the tears of reptiles. Julia butterflies are found around the edges of forests, and their orange coloration warns predators of their unpleasant taste.
