Red Handed (S/F)

Red Handed is a mobile phone application designed by Chad Barris. It is designed for use with phones which have fingerprint recognition capabilities. When active, if an unrecognized fingerprint attempts to unlock the device screen, the device will rapidly overheat. This makes the device painful to hold, and automatically triggers the phone’s temperature shutdown protocol, locking it from further use until it cools. There is no evidence that Red Handed has ever been installed on a phone other than Barris’s own, nor that it has ever actually been sold. Due to the inherent safety issues in its use, as well as limited effectiveness (for example, a misplaced finger from the phone’s appropriate user could trigger its effects), it probably has low appeal and may not even be legal to sell.
