Scalloped Hammerhead (S/F-CCJW) / (S/F-JWE)

The scalloped hammerhead (Sphyrna lewini), also known as the bronze, kinky-headed, or southern hammerhead, is a species of medium-sized shark in the hammerhead family Sphyrnidae. It is large for a hammerhead, but is not especially big compared to other types of sharks; males grow to five or six feet long, while females can reach slightly over eight feet. The largest confirmed specimen was 14 feet long. This species is found in coastal waters of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, as well as the western and central Pacific, as far east as Hawaii. It is considered critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with populations having declined around 95% in some areas between 1991 and 2021. The main threat to their existence is shark finning, as well as harvesting for liver oil.
