American Bullfrog (S/F-JWE)

The American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) is a species of large frog in the family Ranidae. It grows from three to six inches long as an adult, and inhabits freshwater wetlands of eastern North America. In some parts of the world, it has become an invasive species due to being introduced as a food source. The frog itself is a voracious carnivore and can displace native frog species when it becomes invasive. Within its native range the International Union for Conservation of Nature ranks its conservation status as Least Concern, as it is very abundant. The bullfrog is the largest species of true frog native to North America. It is believed to have evolved around 4.9 million years ago.
