Amelia Mary Earhart (S/F)

Amelia Mary Earhart (born July 24, 1897; declared dead January 5, 1939) was an American aviation pioneer and writer. She was the first female airplane passenger to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1928, and later became the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean solo in 1932. She disappeared without a trace alongside her navigator Fred Noonan on July 2, 1937 while crossing the Indo-Pacific while en route from Lae, New Guinea to Howland Island. Both she and Noonan were declared dead a year and a half later. Most historians believe that Earhart’s aircraft ran out of fuel and crashed in the ocean north of Howland Island due to an error on the part of the navigator.
