Green Anole (S/F-JWE)

The green anole (Anolis carolinensis), also called the American or Carolina anole, is a species of small lizard in the anole family Dactyloidae. It can grow up to eight inches in length, with more than half of that consisting of its tail. Males are identifiable by their vibrant red dewlap which they expand to intimidate rivals and impress potential mates. These lizards are arboreal and inhabit subtropical forests of southwestern North America, but have also been introduced artificially to islands in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean. The International Union for Conservation of Nature considers them a species of least concern, as they are common and resilient throughout most of their native range.
