Burrowing Owl (S/F-JWE)

The burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia), also called the schoo, is a species of bird in the family Strigidae, the true owls. It is a long-legged species native to plains of the Americas, and like most owls it is a crepuscular hunter. Burrowing owls are known for living underground, often in burrows excavated by other animals such as prairie dogs. As of 2024 it was considered a species of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
