Indian Rhinoceros (S/F)

The Indian rhinoceros (Rhinoceros unicornis), also called the greater one-horned rhinoceros, is a species of perissodactyl mammal in the rhinoceros family Rhinoceratidae. It evolved during the Early Pleistocene epoch, and once was widespread across the Indo-Gangetic Plain; however, today it is found only in a few locations in the northern Indian subcontinent, with 85% of its population found in the state of Assam. It is considered Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, threatened by poaching and habitat loss. In the summer of 2018, only 3,588 Indian rhinos were reported alive in the wild.
