The Nimitz Foundation is an American scientific organization. It is probably fictional to the Jurassic film universe, since the only real-life American foundation with a similar name is the Admiral Nimitz Foundation known for operating the National Museum of the Pacific War. The existence of the fictional Nimitz Foundation comes from Dr. Alan Grant’s book Dinosaur Detectives, where the foundation can be seen in the text on the back cover. Alan Grant is said to have a fellowship in the foundation, suggesting that it probably does not refer to the real-life Admiral Nimitz Foundation, since that organization was founded in 1971 for funding the Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Naval Museum in Fredericksburg, Texas. While it is not impossible that Dr. Grant has close family who served in the U.S. Navy and hailed from this city, it is more likely that the prop designers invented a fictional organization to mention on the back of Grant’s book, never expecting that fans would be obsessive enough to actually give it as much attention as we have done here.
