2018 U.S. Congress Hearings on Isla Nublar (S/F)

The 2018 United States Congress hearings on Isla Nublar were a series of Congressional meetings centered around the political debate of de-extinct animal rights, specifically regarding whether de-extinct animals created and then abandoned by International Genetic Technologies should be relocated to a safe environment and provided veterinary care. While there was fierce debate on both sides of the aisle, the Republican-dominated government was firmly against the rights of the animals from the outset, and ultimately declared on June 22, 2018 that formerly extinct animals brought back to life by scientific intervention had no inherent rights and that the responsibility for caring from them fell on their creators. The government, based on this conclusion, determined that there was no federal precedent to force InGen or its holding company Masrani Global Corporation to provide the proposed care to the animals.
