Chief Red Cloud (1822 – December 10, 1909), known in Lakota as Maȟpíya Lúta, was an Oglala Lakota tribal chief who defended his people against United States imperialism during the late nineteenth century. He led some of the most successful campaigns against the U.S. military forces at the time.
