The scarlet macaw (Ara macao) is a species of parrot in the family Psittacidae. It is indigenous to Latin America, and lives in evergreen forests. There are two subspecies, the South American scarlet macaw (A. m. macao) and the Central American scarlet macaw (A. m. cyanopterus).
