Yurt (S/F-CCJW)

A yurt, also called a ger, is a large portable tent usually insulated using animal skins or felt. Yurts have their origins among nomadic farming civilizations of the central Asian steppes, for whom the yurt was the primary kind of home for thousands of years. A round shape and sizeable interior allows it to accommodate for between five and twenty people, and it can generally be set up or taken down in less than a few hours. In the modern day, yurts have caught on throughout the world; some wealthier users have done away with the ‘temporary’ and ‘nomadic’ aspects, building permanent structures that only visually resemble yurts.
