Nublar Centipede (S/F-CCJW)

An unidentified species of centipede, an arthropod in the class Chilopoda, is found on Isla Nublar and was recorded in a field guide written by Darius Bowman in 2016. The species is not known, and the illustration is too stylized to determine any species; it is depicted with large forcipules and ultimate legs, identifying it as a centipede, but it has only eight walking legs. It may have been drawn based on a juvenile or simply stylized to have fewer legs for ease of illustration. There are around twenty species of centipede known from mainland Costa Rica, and this Nublar species may represent one of them or be an endemic species to the island. Considering the de-extinction projects that took place there, it may even be a species that had formerly become extinct.

Giant tropical centipedes, in the genus Scolopendra, were originally planned to appear in the film The Lost World: Jurassic Park on nearby Isla Sorna (and still appear in the junior novelization). However, these are much larger than the centipede in Darius’s field guide appears to be.
